My itinerary for the summer. FINAL CHRONOLOGIAL SCALE_UPDATED.jpg

My love for baseball comes from the enjoyment I got from playing the game and the appreciation I have for what the game taught me. Baseball has never been just a game. For more than 15 years, baseball, along with school, was the main activity that I organized the rest of my life around. With the help of my coaches and teammates, I learned time management, discipline, leadership, organization and the value of hard work from playing the game.

My feelings about baseball are not unique ; many of my former teammates have similar feelings. This project will be an homage to the game that has given me and many others so much.

I have come to believe that there is a certain universality as to why people love the game. It is my hope that by photographing a game at every MLB stadium, I can capture and document a visual representation of that universality.

While there are experiential commonalities to the game of baseball, there are many differences at every stadium, too. Baseball is the only sport that allows for each playing field to have its own unique dimensions. As such, each stadium has its own personality and deserves exploration. Furthermore, fans and traditions at each stadium are different too. As I explore every stadium, I hope to document how each stadium’s physical differences contribute to the uniqueness of a team’s fans and traditions.

Your support goes toward funding a scholarship solely for baseball players

I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to make this trip happen so I want to make sure I give something back. All profit from this trip will be donated to the scholarship program administered by MLB’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program. My goal is to contribute a full scholarship for next year’s program with a $5000 donation. But with your support, we could do even more.

Ray Whitehouse BIOGRAPHY

My life goal is to live an interesting and meaningful story. Lately, I’ve been asking myself “If someone were to write a screenplay and make a movie about my life, how much would it need to be adapted?” A big thanks to Bruce Strong for recommending the book “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.”

I love politics and it is often the lens through which I view the world. In my opinion, photography is a political act. Making pictures is my preferred method of making political statements.

Sports is not unlike politics in that it has winners and losers and there is so much that goes on behind the scenes to determine the outcome.

I prefer to photograph places and people for longer periods of time so I can show how and why they’ve changed. When people allow me to document their life, I feel great responsibility to portray them in a way that accurately reflects who they are.

I feel humbled to have developed the relationships I have and to have gone where I’ve gone with my camera.
